Monsoon Annadhanams

Reachout has been regularly doing Annadhanam when ever sponsors have requested us to do so. One such Annadhanam was done by one of our sponsors, Mr. V.Prakash on the occasion of his child’s birthday. We selected around 50 children from the slums in the city & gave them a full-fledged meal which included Payasam & Vadai. They thoroughly enjoyed the food and were greatly delighted to receive a box of biscuits before they left. You can see their smiley faces below with the gifs.

The people living here often yearn for rain, a rare phenomenon in Chennai. So when it rains heavily then it is celebration time for all. Unfortunately like all good things there is another side to the coin. Inevitably whether it rains or not, it is the people living in the slums who are adversely affected.

Water shortage finds them standing in long queues with pots and pans in the wee hours of the morning. Pouring rain finds them in a worse condition. Their houses are flooded, their roofs start to leak and women find it almost impossible to cook and feed their family. Last year some of these affected people approached us for some money, which would enable them to buy food packets for their hungry family. This set us thinking. So this year we are planning to launch a huge "Annadhanam Scheme", whereby we hope to collect money well in advance. This will be used to feed the people in the slums in the city when the monsoon strikes. We basically hope to collect enough funds to carry on the "Annadhanam" for five days wherein we would be supplying food packets for a minimum of 1000 people per day.

We are optimistic that Chennai is filled with soft hearted people who would be more than willing to feed a crying baby, old men and women on a wet rainy day when we ourselves long for additional Bonda's and Bhajji's.
